1980

  • Official Registration of SIET under Societies Act, Singapore[Gazette Notification No: 3310]
  • SIET First Postal Address : Clementi Central P.O.Box 61, Singapore 911204.

1981

  • SIET First rented office : 20-E, Upper Serangoon Road, Singapore 1334.
  • SIET – Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering (incorporating ECUK Part 2 syllabuses]
  • First issue of SIET Quarterly Journal – The Engineering Technician was published in March 1981.
  • First issue of SIET Yearbook was published.

1982

  • SIET Constitution amended to allow SIET to conduct its own ‘Professional Examination’.
  • Clifford Educational Training Centre was appointed to conduct courses leading to SIET Professional Examination.

1984

  • Affiliated to the Institute pf Engineers and Technicians, United Kingdom.
  • SIET 2nd rented office : 50 Chin Swee Road, #08-02, Thong Chai Building, Singapore 0316.

1985

  • SIET 3rd rented office : 11-C, Mackenzie Road, Singapore 0922.

1986

  • SIET Constitution was amended to change in name from ‘Technicians’ to ‘Technologists’ (still called SIET).
  • SIET supported the first MBA from the Oklahoma City University ,USA in Singapore.
  • SIET quarterly journal was renamed the ‘The Engineering Technologists’.

1988

  • Full Member of the Singapore Professional Centre (SPC). [website : http://www.spc.org.sg/ ].
  • SIET 4th rented office : Block 261, Waterloo Street (Waterloo Centre), #03-01, Singapore 0718. [until 1999]

1990

  • Signed MOU with the Technological Association of Malaysia (TAM).

1991

  • Two private colleges in Malaysia affiliated to SIET:
    • Perak Institute of Engineering Technology (PIET).
    • Institut Teknologi dan Pengurusan Lebuh Victoria, Penang (ITP).

1992

  • SIET Constitution & byelaws amended :
    • Council extended from 10 elected members to 14 elected members.
    • The Executive Council may review the annual subscription rates annually according to the need of the Institute.

1994

  • MIDAS Institute of Technology, Johore Bahru was affiliated to SIET.

1996

  • Signed MOUs with Institute of Professional Engineering Technologists (IPET), South Africa and the Institution of Engineers, Australia.

1997

  • Founding Member of the World Federation of Technology Organizations (WFTO). [website : http://www.wfto.org/ ].
  • Signed MOUs with the University of Southern Queensland, Australia and ATS Group in Singapore.

2005    

  • Signed MOU with the Design Technology and Management Society International (DTMSI), South Africa [website : http://www.dtmsi.org/ ]and the Royal Institution (RI) Group [website : http://www.ri2020.com/ ].
  • New registered address : Royal Institution Cenre, 68 Duxton Road, Singapore 089527.
  • New postal asddress : Clementi P.O.Box 103, Singapore 911204.

The Institute is governed by an elected COUNCIL, from which is appointed various working committees:

3.       Publications Sub-Committee
4.       Social Function Sub-Committee

SIET’ services to members include:
·          Professional Membership.
·          Professional Examinations.
·          Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes.
·          Publications : Quarterly Journals – The Engineering Technologists and SIET Yearbook published  since 1981.
